ಪ್ರಥಮಾ (prathamā — nominative)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಕರ್ತೃಕಾರಕ ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಮೊದಲ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ.
Meaning: The first of Sanskrit's eight cases — the nominative.

ಪ್ರಥಮಾ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಕರ್ತೃವನ್ನು (ಕ್ರಿಯೆ ಮಾಡುವವನನ್ನು) ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ, ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಪದವನ್ನು ಅದರ ಮೂಲ, ನಿಘಂಟುರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ (ಪ್ರಾತಿಪದಿಕ) ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸುವಾಗಲೂ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

The nominative marks the subject of a verb — who or what performs the action — and is also the case used to cite a word in its plain dictionary form.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅದ್ವೇಷ್ಟಾ (12.13) — ಪ್ರಥಮಾ ಏಕವಚನ ಪುಲ್ಲಿಂಗ — "ದ್ವೇಷವಿಲ್ಲದವನು" ಎಂಬ ಭಕ್ತನ ಗುಣ, ವಾಕ್ಯದ ಕರ್ತೃ.
Example: ಅದ್ವೇಷ್ಟಾ (12.13) — Nominative singular masculine — "one free from hatred," the subject of the sentence.
