ಅವ್ಯಯೀಭಾವ (avyayībhāva — adverbial compound)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಮಾಸವಾದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಡೀ ಪದವೇ ಅವ್ಯಯ (ಬದಲಾಗದ ಪದ) ಆಗುವ ಸಮಾಸ.
Meaning: A compound that itself becomes an indeclinable, functioning adverbially.

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಉಪಸರ್ಗ/ಅವ್ಯಯದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಆರಂಭವಾಗಿ, ಇಡೀ ಸಮಾಸ ಲಿಂಗ/ವಚನ/ವಿಭಕ್ತಿಗನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಬದಲಾಗದೆ ಒಂದೇ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಉಳಿಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಸಮಾಸ.

Typically opens with a prefix/particle, and the whole compound then stays in one fixed form regardless of gender, number, or case. A type of ಸಮಾಸ.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಮದರ್ಥಂ (12.10) — ಮತ್ + ಅರ್ಥ — "ನನಗೋಸ್ಕರ", ಅವ್ಯಯೀಭಾವ ಸಮಾಸ.
Example: ಮದರ್ಥಂ (12.10) — mat- + artha — "for My sake," an avyayībhāva compound.
