ದ್ವಂದ್ವ (dvandva — copulative/"and" compound)

ಅರ್ಥ: "ಮತ್ತು" ಎಂಬ ಸಂಬಂಧದಿಂದ ಜೋಡಿಸಲಾದ, ಸಮಾನ ಸ್ಥಾನದ ಪದಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿ ರೂಪಿಸುವ ಸಮಾಸ.
Meaning: A compound listing coordinate members joined as if by "and."

ದ್ವಂದ್ವ ಸಮಾಸದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದವೂ ಸಮಾನ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆಯುತ್ತದೆ — ಯಾವುದೂ ಇನ್ನೊಂದನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಸಮಾಸ.

Every member of a dvandva stands on equal footing — none modifies another. A type of ಸಮಾಸ.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಪಣವಾನಕಗೋಮುಖಾಃ (1.13) — ಪಣವ + ಆನಕ + ಗೋಮುಖ — "ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಡೋಲುಗಳು, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಡೋಲುಗಳು, ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಂಬುಗಳು", ಮೂರು ವಾದ್ಯಗಳ ಪಟ್ಟಿ.
Example: ಪಣವಾನಕಗೋಮುಖಾಃ (1.13) — paṇava + ānaka + gomukha — "small drums, large drums, and horns," a coordinate list of three instruments.
