ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ (pratyaya — suffix)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಧಾತು ಅಥವಾ ಪ್ರಾತಿಪದಿಕದ ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಹೊಸ ಪದ/ರೂಪ ನಿಷ್ಪಾದಿಸುವ ಅಂಶ.
Meaning: An ending attached to a root or stem to derive a new word or inflected form.

"ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ" ಎಂಬ ಪದ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಪದ — ಗೀತೆಯ ಪದಟಿಪ್ಪಣಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಕೃತ್ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯದ ಜೊತೆ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (cf. ಕ್ತಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ, ಶತೃ, ಶಾನಚ್, ತುಮುನ್, ತೃಚ್) — ಆ ನಿರ್ದಿಷ್ಟ ಪುಟಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯದ ವಿವರ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.

"Pratyaya" is the generic term — in these word notes it usually appears alongside a specific kṛt suffix (see ಕ್ತಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ, ಶತೃ, ಶಾನಚ್, ತುಮುನ್, ತೃಚ್), each of which has its own page with the specifics.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅದ್ವೇಷ್ಟಾ (12.13) — ತೃಚ್ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ (ಕರ್ತೃವಾಚಕ) — ಧಾತುವಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿ ಕರ್ತೃವಾಚಕ ನಾಮಪದ ರೂಪಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Example: ಅದ್ವೇಷ್ಟಾ (12.13) — The tṛc suffix (agent-forming) — attaches to a root to derive an agent noun.

ಇವಲ್ಲದೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ — ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ (ಸುಪ್) — ನಾಮಪದದ ಪ್ರಾತಿಪದಿಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿ ಕಾರಕ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ (ಪ್ರಥಮಾ ಮೊದಲಾದ ಎಂಟು ವಿಭಕ್ತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ). ಯಾವುದೇ ಶಬ್ದದ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ-ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯಲು ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಯ ಪರಿಕರ ಬಳಸಿ.
