ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥ (ājñārtha — imperative, ಲೋಟ್)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಆಜ್ಞೆ, ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆ ಅಥವಾ ಅನುಮತಿ ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಭಾವ (ಲೋಟ್ ಲಕಾರ).
Meaning: The imperative — commands, requests, or permission (loṭ in the lakāra system).

ಆಜ್ಞಾರ್ಥ ಮಧ್ಯಮಪುರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ ನೇರ ಆಜ್ಞೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ, ಪ್ರಥಮಪುರುಷದಲ್ಲಿ "ಆಗಲಿ/ಮಾಡಲಿ" ಎಂಬ ಇಚ್ಛೆಯಾಗಿಯೂ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ.

The imperative gives a direct command in the 2nd person, or expresses a wish ("let it be/let him") in the 3rd person.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅಭಿರಕ್ಷಂತು (1.11) — ಪ್ರಥಮಪುರುಷ ಬಹುವಚನ — "ಅವರು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ", ಒಂದು ಇಚ್ಛೆ/ಆಜ್ಞೆ.
Example: ಅಭಿರಕ್ಷಂತು (1.11) — 3rd person plural — "let them protect," a wish expressed as a command.
