ಆತ್ಮನೇಪದ (ātmanepada — "for oneself")

ಅರ್ಥ: ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಫಲ ಕರ್ತೃವಿಗೇ ಸಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆಯ ಪದ.
Meaning: The other of the two verbal "padas" — literally "the word for oneself."

ಪರಸ್ಮೈಪದ ಗೆ ವಿರುದ್ಧವಾಗಿ, ಆತ್ಮನೇಪದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಯ ಫಲ ಕರ್ತೃವಿಗೇ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವ ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಧಾತುಗಳು (ಉಭಯಪದೀ) ಎರಡೂ ಪದಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತವೆ.

As opposed to ಪರಸ್ಮೈಪದ, ātmanepada implies the fruit of the action returns to the agent. A few roots (ubhayapadī) can take either pada.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅಕುರ್ವತ (1.1) — ಧಾತು ಕೃ (kṛ, "to do") ಆತ್ಮನೇಪದ ಲಙ್ ಪ್ರಥಮಪುರುಷ ಬಹುವಚನ.
Example: ಅಕುರ್ವತ (1.1) — Root kṛ ("to do"), ātmanepada, imperfect tense, 3rd person plural.
