ಕುಲಕ್ಷಯೇ ಪ್ರಣಶ್ಯಂತಿ ಕುಲಧರ್ಮಾಃ ಸನಾತನಾಃ ।
ಧರ್ಮೇ ನಷ್ಟೇ ಕುಲಂ ಕೃತ್ಸ್ನಮಧರ್ಮೋಽಭಿಭವತ್ಯುತ ॥ ೧-೪೦॥

ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ
ಅರ್ಜುನನು ಕುಲನಾಶದ ಸರಪಳಿ ಪರಿಣಾಮವನ್ನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ: ಕುಲನಾಶ → ಕುಲಧರ್ಮಗಳ ನಾಶ → ಅಧರ್ಮದ ಆವರಣ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಶ್ಲೋಕಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (೪೧-೪೪) ಈ ಸರಪಳಿ ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಂದುವರಿದು ವರ್ಣಸಂಕರ ಮತ್ತು ಪಿತೃಗಳ ಅಧಃಪತನದವರೆಗೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.

Commentary
Arjuna outlines here a chain of consequences from the destruction of a family: family destruction → loss of family traditions → the family's descent into unrighteousness. This chain continues in the following verses (41–44), extending further to the mixing of castes and the downfall of ancestors.
