ಕ್ಲೇಶೋಽಧಿಕತರಸ್ತೇಷಾಮವ್ಯಕ್ತಾಸಕ್ತಚೇತಸಾಂ ।
ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತಾ ಹಿ ಗತಿರ್ದುಃಖಂ ದೇಹವದ್ಭಿರ್ಅವಾಪ್ಯತೇ ॥ ೧೨-೫॥

ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ
ಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಗುಣ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದ ಉಪಾಸನೆಯ ಕ್ಲೇಶವನ್ನು (ಕ್ಲೇಶಃ ಅಧಿಕತರಃ) ಸೂಚಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ - ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತ ಮನಸ್ಸುಳ್ಳ (ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತಾಸಕ್ತಚೇತಸಾಂ) ದೇಹಾಭಿಮಾನವುಳ್ಳ ಜೀವಿಗಳಿಗೆ (ದೇಹವದ್ಭಿಃ) ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಗತಿಯನ್ನು (ಅವ್ಯಕ್ತಾ ಗತಿಃ) ಕಷ್ಟದಿಂದ (ದುಃಖಂ) ಮಾತ್ರ ಹೊಂದಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ (ಅವಾಪ್ಯತೇ) - ಸಾಕಾರ ಭಗವಂತನ ಭಕ್ತಿಗಿಂತ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಶ್ರಮದಾಯಕ. ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಸಗುಣ ಭಕ್ತಿಯ ಸುಲಭ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಪರೋಕ್ಷವಾಗಿ ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Commentary
Krishna points out the difficulty of the impersonal path — for beings who identify with the body, fixing the mind on a formless, unmanifest principle is far more strenuous than devotion to the personal God. This implicitly favors the easier path of saguṇa bhakti.
