ಏತಾನ್ನ ಹಂತುಮಿಚ್ಛಾಮಿ ಘ್ನತೋಽಪಿ ಮಧುಸೂದನ ।
ಅಪಿ ತ್ರೈಲೋಕ್ಯರಾಜ್ಯಸ್ಯ ಹೇತೋಃ ಕಿಂ ನು ಮಹೀಕೃತೇ ॥ ೧-೩೫॥

ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ
ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಅಹಿಂಸಾ ನಿಲುವು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತುಂಗಕ್ಕೇರುತ್ತದೆ - ಸ್ವತಃ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣಕ್ಕೇ ಅಪಾಯವಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ ಬಂಧುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಲ್ಲಲು ಬಯಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಘೋಷಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಮೂರು ಲೋಕಗಳ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಆಮಿಷವನ್ನೂ ತಿರಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಸಣ್ಣ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೇ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾನೆ.

Commentary
Arjuna's stance against violence reaches its peak — he declares he will not kill his kin even to save his own life. Rejecting even the temptation of ruling the three worlds, he dismisses the mere earthly kingdom as beneath consideration.
