ಲಿಟ್ (liṭ-lakāra — perfect, ಪರೋಕ್ಷಭೂತ)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಪರೋಕ್ಷಭೂತ (ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಕಾಣದ, ಪರಂಪರಾಗತ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವದ ಭೂತಕಾಲ) ಸೂಚಿಸುವ ಲಕಾರ.
Meaning: The perfect tense — traditionally used for events not directly witnessed, often carrying a sense of "as reported/by tradition."

ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಲಿಟ್ ಪ್ರತ್ಯಕ್ಷವಲ್ಲದ ಭೂತಕ್ರಿಯೆಗೆ ಬಳಕೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು; ಆಗಾಗ್ಗೆ ದ್ವಿತ್ವ (reduplication) ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. cf. ಲಙ್ (imperfect).

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಅನುಶುಶ್ರುಮ (1.44) — ಉತ್ತಮಪುರುಷ ಬಹುವಚನ — "ನಾವು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದೇವೆ" (ಪರಂಪರೆಯಿಂದ), ಶ್ರು ಧಾತುವಿನ ದ್ವಿತ್ವರೂಪ ಶುಶ್ರುಮ.
Example: ಅನುಶುಶ್ರುಮ (1.44) — 1st person plural — "we have heard" (by tradition), the reduplicated perfect of śru.
