ತತ್ಪುರುಷ (tatpuruṣa — determinative compound)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಮಾಸದ ಒಂದು ಪದ ಇನ್ನೊಂದನ್ನು ಒಂದು ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಸಂಬಂಧದ ಮೂಲಕ ವಿಶೇಷಿಸುವ ಸಮಾಸ.
Meaning: A compound in which the first member modifies the second via an implied case relation (e.g. genitive, locative).

ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ "ರಾಜಪುರುಷಃ" (ರಾಜನ ಪುರುಷ) ಷಷ್ಠೀತತ್ಪುರುಷ. ಯಾವ ವಿಭಕ್ತಿ ಸಂಬಂಧ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಆಧರಿಸಿ ಉಪವಿಭಾಗಗಳಿವೆ (ಷಷ್ಠೀತತ್ಪುರುಷ, ಸಪ್ತಮೀತತ್ಪುರುಷ, ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ). ಒಂದು ಬಗೆಯ ಸಮಾಸ.

For example "rājapuruṣaḥ" ("king's man") is a genitive tatpuruṣa. Subtypes are named for which case relation is implied (genitive-tatpuruṣa, locative-tatpuruṣa, etc). A type of ಸಮಾಸ.

ಉದಾಹರಣೆ: ಕರ್ಮಸಂಗಿನಾಂ (3.26) — ಕರ್ಮ + ಸಂಗಿನ್ — ಸಪ್ತಮೀ-ತತ್ಪುರುಷ/ಬಹುವ್ರೀಹಿ, "ಕರ್ಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳವರ".
Example: ಕರ್ಮಸಂಗಿನಾಂ (3.26) — karma + saṅgin — a locative-tatpuruṣa reading ("attached to action"), genitive plural.
