ಶ್ಲೋಕ ೮ - ವಿಷ್ಣು ಸಹಸ್ರನಾಮ

ಈಶಾನಃ ಪ್ರಾಣದಃ ಪ್ರಾಣೋ ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಃ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠಃ ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಃ ।
ಹಿರಣ್ಯಗರ್ಭೋ ಭೂಗರ್ಭೋ ಮಾಧವೋ ಮಧುಸೂದನಃ ॥ ೮ ॥

ಪದ ಅರ್ಥ

ಪದ	Meaning
ಈಶಾನಃ	The ruler, the controller
ಪ್ರಾಣದಃ	The giver of life/breath
ಪ್ರಾಣಃ	The life-breath itself
ಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠಃ	The eldest
ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠಃ	The most excellent
ಪ್ರಜಾಪತಿಃ	The Lord of all creatures/progeny
ಹಿರಣ್ಯಗರ್ಭಃ	The one with the golden womb, source of the cosmic egg
ಭೂಗರ್ಭಃ	He within whom the earth rests
ಮಾಧವಃ	The husband of Lakṣmī, or "born in the Madhu dynasty"
ಮಧುಸೂದನಃ	The slayer of the demon Madhu

(ईशानः प्राणदः प्राणो ज्येष्ठः श्रेष्ठः प्रजापतिः ।
हिरण्यगर्भो भूगर्भो माधवो मधुसूदनः ॥ ८ ॥)
